This bamboo is a natural mutation of Bambusa lako that occurred in our propagation fields. The standard Bambusa lako grows new culms that begin green then transition to black over about a six month period. Small vertical green stripes often remain on the black culms. In 2015, a single specimen began producing the opposite color pattern - the culms remained green but black vertical stripes were left on most culms. This is an unusual and exciting feature that would stand out in any garden.
We isolated the inverted bamboo and monitored it for two years to ensure that it's unusual characteristic would br stable. Propagation began in 2018 and we're now have 3 gallon and 7 gallon sizes available.
